Third Wave of Covid-19 Pandemic ?
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered strain of coronavirus, a type of virus known to cause respiratory infections in humans.
The virus was confirmed to have reached Malaysia in January 2020. Until now, there was no vaccination available for this disease. Therefore, it is important for us to do prevention such as wearing a mask, washing our hands, social distancing, and more.
In Malaysia, Covid-19 cases are statistically stable. However, many believe that there will be a third wave for this pandemic in Malaysia. This is a very subjective topic to discuss.
Reasons for the belief of the third wave
1. Uncooperative Patients
According to front-line medical workers in Malaysia, they are being put in danger by a lack of protective equipment and uncooperative patients.
There are also patients that lie about their travel history and flouting conditions.
This causes the medical worker to undermined the fight against the virus.
2. Chain reaction
A front line doctor in Kelantan state mentions that the tabligh cluster from the second wave had caused a chain reaction of the infection. This causes the spreading of the virus throughout the community.
Therefore, it is believed that the third wave is going to be a community spread. In the short-term, the number of infections would continue to rise.
3. Returning students or workers
According to Dr. Khor Swee Kheng, there is a possibility that the third wave of infection will be mainly due to Malaysian students and workers returning from overseas.
Malaysian government tries to avoid this to happen by forcing returning students and workers to have a 14-days quarantine.
However, with the stabilization of the Covid-19 condition in Malaysia, people start to ignore the standard procedure of quarantine. Without testing appropriately, the third wave might happen.
4. Ease of Movement Control Order (MCO)
Health experts are voicing concern over the move to ease the movement control order (MCO) by allowing businesses to reopen. They warned that this might lead to new waves of Covid-19 infections.
Other than the risk of socializing throughout the community, many are still confused with the standard operating procedures even at the stage of Recovery MCO. This normally happens to small businesses or older generations.
As we can see, the Malaysian government is trying to recover the economy by allowing most of the industry to start operating including cinemas, pools, full capacity public transport, and more.
Therefore, it is important for us to do prevention and protect ourselves against the virus.
How to protect yourself?
1. Social Distancing
Keep the greatest possible distance from other people for at least 1 meter, to avoid breathing in droplets, which could include the novel coronavirus causing COVID-19, if the person is infected.
2. Keep your hands away from your face
The virus can easily pass from the hands to the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth. Therefore, try to avoid touching your face.
Try to wear a face mask if possible. This is to prevent the virus from spreading from coughing and sneezing.
3. Instant Sterilization
The virus is an unseen microorganism. Therefore, it is difficult for us to prevent it.
One of the useful ways to kill viruses is with instant sterilization.
